Owerri — Wife of former governor of old Imo
State, Mrs. Victoria Mbakwe, has called on governors of the South East,
especially, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi, which made up old Imo State, to
initiate a policy that would cater for the family of deceased governors
in the region.
She lamented her abandonment by past governments in the South East zone since the death of her husband, Chief Sam Mbakwe.
Mrs. Mbakwe, who told her story of lamentation when Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Obowo Development Association, ODA, honoured her late husband, however, acknowledged receiving some token from a past governor and present administration in the state.
Remarking that her husband did not loot Imo treasury, unlike today's governors, Mrs. Mbakwe asked the new crop of leaders in the zone to emulate her husband who was called the "weeping governor" because of his insistence that Igboland should be developed.
The recognition given to Mbakwe and others, which was part of this year's Ezumezu Obowu, an intellectual and New Yam celebration of the community, organised by Obowu Development Association, ODA,, the umbrella socio cultural organisation of the entire Obwou people, also witnessed the conferment of traditional titles on some other eminent Nigerians.
