*Plans to do collabo with younger brother
If Nigerian International and Chelsea FC
midfielder, John Mikel Obi is not making
waves today in his chosen career-football,
he probably would have pitched his tent
in the music industry.
This stunning revelation was made
recently by his younger brother, Patrick
Tochukwu Obi, while officially unveiling
the six artistes who are signed to the
soccer star’s records label, Matured
Money Minds(MMM) which he established
last year.
Patrick, popularly known as Edgar and a
fast rising act, disclosed further that,
Mikel’s undying love for music informed
his decision to invest in the
entertainment industry.
John Obi Mikel
According to Edgar, also an ex-footballer
and former playmaker for Pepsi Academy
in Jos El-kanani , “If Mikel wasn’t a
footballer, he would probably have taken
the same path in life with me.”
He hinted that the soccer star is planning
to do a collabo with him.”Actually, I was
with him a couple of weeks ago and told
me concerning his plans to do collabo
with me. Hopefully, you will be seeing
that happen soon.
Disclosing further, Edgar said ,Mikel has
written a couple of songs, adding, his
closeness to Psquare is not unconnected
with his passion for music.
Edgar however, plays hip hop and R n B,
and was formally based in the UK before
he later relocated to the country. Last
year, he dropped his single under MMM
Records mixtape.
“I have already made up my mind before
relocating to Nigeria that I was coming
home to do music. While I was playing
football, I was at the same time doing my
music. I always knew that if it wasn’t
going to be football, it must be music.
Unfortunately, football didn’t work for
me. Once I was above 21 years, I did not
see any need to pursue a career in
football anymore. That’s why I delved
into music,” he narrated.
Continuing, he said, “I have never wanted
to be carried by my elder brother. It’s
actually very difficult for people to see
reasons with me. I don’t believe that
somebody should carry me to my destiny.
Mikel had no hand in my football, not
because he doesn’t love me or he doesn’t
have the belief in me but because I
wanted to be in control of my destiny.”
On why he prefers to sign on new talents,
Edgar who manages Mikel’s record label
explained that he believes in discovering
talents. Last year, MMM signed on six
artistes including Splash, Charass, Kido
and Mr Jay who have been working
tirelessly with sound engineers and
producers to take the industy by storm.
Accordig to the rising act, “the artistes are
planning on how to get stronghold in the
industry by releasing one or two
individual singles into the market.”
